Didube Bus Station Guide 2026: Vans, Fares, Timetables

Didube is the bus station almost every visitor to Georgia uses and almost nobody understands on the first visit: a yard the size of several car parks, wrapped around a market, with half a dozen small bus companies nested inside it and signs mostly in Georgian. This page explains how it is laid out, where each van leaves from, what every main route costs and how often it runs, and when a fixed-price driver is the better use of the morning. Timetables and fares were read on 2 October 2026 against a station survey updated on 26 September 2026 and our own transport guides.

Didube before 09:00, when the Kazbegi, Kutaisi and Borjomi vans fill fastest. The yard is directly outside the metro.

Quick answer

Take the red metro line to Didube (1 GEL, 06:00 to midnight); the yard is outside the exit, behind the market. Vans north and west leave from here: Mtskheta every 20 to 30 minutes for 2 GEL, Kazbegi eleven times a day from 08:00 to 19:00 for 20 GEL, Gori every 15 to 20 minutes for 5 to 7 GEL, Borjomi and Kutaisi hourly for 15 and 25 GEL, Batumi hourly for 25 to 35 GEL. On the big routes you buy a paper ticket at that route's desk; on short ones you pay the driver. Departure times are fixed but a full van leaves early, so arrive 30 to 40 minutes ahead, in cash, with the destination written in Georgian on your phone. Kakheti, Mestia and the international coaches do not leave from here.

How the yard works

Didube sits by the river north of the centre, 8 km and about 20 minutes by car from Freedom Square, directly beside Didube metro station on the red line. It is not one bus station. It is a complex of car parks, roads and low buildings shared with a busy bazaar, and inside it several separate bus companies run their own desks and their own patch of tarmac: the main part of the yard by the metro, where the Mtskheta, Kazbegi, Gudauri and Shatili vans stand; Avtostation Didube, for Gori; the Nige and Okriba stations, which between them handle Kutaisi, Chiatura, Batumi, Borjomi, Bakuriani, Akhaltsikhe, Vardzia, Zugdidi, Martvili and the coast; and the Passengers station for the Oni van. Signs are mostly in Georgian, with the popular destinations also marked in English. Not every driver or desk speaks English, but if you can show where you are going you will be pointed to the right van.

Three rules cover most of what goes wrong. Most of the big routes sell a paper ticket at a designated cash desk before you board, and the shorter ones take cash from the driver; ask at the first desk you reach. Departure times are fixed, but a van that fills up leaves early, which is why you arrive 30 to 40 minutes before the time you want. And some routes are seasonal: fewer vans, or none, in the winter low season, and the Oni and Shatili vans only run in summer. Fares rose on several routes in May 2026 when fuel prices climbed, so anything quoting 10 GEL to Kazbegi is out of date; the table below is what was posted at the station and by the operators in late September 2026, and the honest instruction is still to confirm the time locally the day before if the trip matters.

Getting to Didube

FromHow
The centreRed metro line to Didube, 1 GEL by bank card or Metromoney, trains from a little before 06:00 to midnight. A Bolt from Freedom Square is about 15 GEL. The railway stationEnter the metro at Station Square and ride the red line north, 1 GEL; a Bolt is about 7 GEL.
Tbilisi AirportBus 337 to the end of the line at Station Square (1 GEL), then the metro to Didube; or a Bolt for about 40 GEL. Our airport guide has the bus hours.
With luggageThe metro is crowded on weekday mornings. Go before 08:00 or take a Bolt; our metro guide explains the card and the stations.
People with backpacks climbing the stairs out of a metro underpass into a street of fruit stalls and taxis in Tbilisi
Out of the metro and into the market. At Didube the bazaar and the bus yard share the same ground, which is why the first five minutes feel like a search.

Routes, fares and times from Didube

Direct vans only. Where a destination is served by more than one company the fare is a range. Vans drop you anywhere along the route for the same fare if you tell the driver when you board; on journeys of two hours or more the driver makes a rest stop, not always at a shop, so carry water and a snack. Read on 2 October 2026 from the station survey of 26 September 2026 and the operators' pages it cites; cross-checked against our marshrutka and bus-stations guides.

The Kazbegi morning

The Kazbegi vans are the busiest thing in the yard and the one most first-time visitors are here for. They stand in the main part of the yard near the metro, with their own ticket desk, the toilets on the edge of their car park and the unofficial baggage room on the side of the market directly opposite. The 08:00 to 11:00 departures fill first, especially on Saturdays and in July and August; by the afternoon in the off season the frequency drops. Buy the ticket, keep it, then find the van and claim a seat with your bag; the driver may ask 5 GEL for a suitcase. Our Kazbegi day trip guide works out what the 08:00 van gives you against a tour or a driver. The road is the Georgian Military Highway over the 2,379 m Jvari Pass, 3 to 3.5 hours with a stop, and in winter the Roads Department closes the Gudauri to Kobi section in avalanche weather, so check georoad.ge before you ride out on a snowy morning. The stops and the drive are in our Military Highway guide; the Kazbegi guide covers the town and the walk to Gergeti.

What does not leave from Didube

DestinationWhere it leaves from
Sighnaghi, Telavi, Kvareli and the rest of KakhetiThe Navtlughi terminal beside Samgori metro; shared taxis from Isani metro. Not Didube, and not Ortachala any more.
Mestia (Svaneti)Navtlughi. From Didube the way to Svaneti is the Zugdidi van or the night train, then a van up the gorge.
Tusheti4x4 jeeps from Telavi and Kvemo Alvani; see the Abano Pass guide.
Yerevan, Baku and TurkeyInternational coaches from Ortachala and Avlabari.
Metro Georgia coaches to Batumi and Kutaisi AirportMetro Georgia's Tbilisi departure point is Ortachala, 1 Gulia Street, not Didube (read on metrogeorgia.ge, Georgian only, 2 October 2026).
Bolnisi, Marneuli, Sagarejo, Tsalka and DashbashiThe south bus station at Samgori and Ortachala.

Our Tbilisi bus stations guide covers Samgori, Ortachala and Station Square in the same detail.

When to skip the yard

Didube is cheap and it works, and there are mornings when it is the wrong tool: four people with luggage, a child, a plan that includes stops at Ananuri and the Gudauri viewpoint, a late start, or a mountain route in snow. A GoTrip driver is a fixed price per car for up to a few passengers, booked in advance with the stops written in, and picks you up at your door rather than at a yard. Split four ways the Kazbegi car costs about 53 GEL a head against 20 on the van, and you leave when you like. Beside you in the yard, drivers offering a "taxi" seat at a higher fare are the shared taxis that run to many of the same towns; they leave when their seats are sold and are fine for the short routes, but agree the price before you get in.

Mistakes

MistakeDo this instead
Coming to Didube for Sighnaghi or TelaviKakheti vans leave from Navtlughi at Samgori metro. Didube adds an hour and a Bolt fare to the day.
Arriving at the posted timeA full van leaves early. Be there 30 to 40 minutes ahead on the Kazbegi, Kutaisi and Borjomi routes.
Looking for a departures boardThere is none. Show the destination in Georgian script at the first desk you reach and follow the pointing.
A 100 GEL note at the deskNobody wants to break it. Carry 5, 10 and 20 GEL notes and coins for the toilets, 20 to 50 tetri.
An afternoon mountain planKazbegi vans thin out after lunch outside summer. Go in the morning, or book a driver for the afternoon.
A van after darkTake the morning van or the train. On the long western routes the train from Station Square is the calmer choice anyway.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Didube bus station?
Red metro line to Didube station, 1 GEL by bank card or Metromoney, trains from about 06:00 to midnight. The yard is outside the exit behind the market. A Bolt from Freedom Square is about 15 GEL, from the airport about 40 GEL. City buses 320 and 333 stop there too.
What time do marshrutkas to Kazbegi leave Didube?
Eleven times a day in season: 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:30, 15:30, 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00, 20 GEL, 3 to 3.5 hours, from the main part of the yard with their own ticket desk. Fewer in the afternoon in winter. Arrive 30 to 40 minutes early.
Do I need to buy a ticket in advance?
Not in advance of the day, and not online. On the big routes you buy a paper ticket at that route's cash desk in the yard before boarding; on short routes like Mtskheta you can pay the desk or the driver. Cash only. Trains are the exception and book on tkt.ge.
Which marshrutkas leave from Didube?
Everything north and west: Mtskheta, Kazbegi and Gudauri, Shatili in summer, Gori, Borjomi, Bakuriani, Akhaltsikhe and Vardzia, Kutaisi, Chiatura, Oni, Martvili, Zugdidi, Batumi and the coast towns. Kakheti leaves from Samgori, Mestia from Navtlughi, international coaches from Ortachala.
Is there luggage storage at Didube?
A small unofficial baggage room on the side of the market opposite the Kazbegi vans. For anything valuable use a proper left-luggage service in the centre instead. Toilets cost 20 to 50 tetri in coins.
Is Didube safe?
It is a crowded market and bus yard, rougher to look at than to use. Keep your bag closed and in front of you in the crowd, agree shared-taxi fares before boarding, and avoid long van journeys after dark. Once you ask at a desk the place is simple.
